Laurie Marburger first arrived in Montana in 1980. After graduating high school in Great Falls, she went south to earn her undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degrees at the University of Arizona. While in law school, she received a Fellowship for a family law internship with Southern Arizona Legal Association, completed over 200 hours in family law assistance to women and children residing in a domestic violence shelter, and interned with the Public Fiduciary and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Laurie was awarded the College of Law’s first annual Public Service Award for her efforts to leverage the law in the service of personal and community development.
After some time in public interest law positions throughout Southern Arizona, Laurie took a sabbatical from the practice of law to raise three active children while working for her husband’s tree and landscaping business—first from the home office, then side by side with the crew on the job sites. Her family relocated their home and business to the Flathead Valley in 2005. During her free time, Laurie volunteered and assisted in her kid’s schools, organized fundraising events including an annual race, refereed youth soccer, served on the board of the Abbie Shelter, and served as a CASA volunteer. She also trained with her family in Shotokan karate, where they were each awarded their black belts. Laurie understands first-hand the value of hard labor, volunteer work, and personal development through good times and bad—all while relentlessly pursuing your family’s personal and financial goals.
Once her children grew into young adults, Laurie returned to the practice of law. While Laurie has recent experience in personal injury law and family law, she has discovered that she relates most meaningfully with the clients at Tanko Law Office. She shares in the triumphs and challenges of experiencing and planning for the inevitability of aging. Accordingly, her practice at Tanko Law focuses on estate planning, (including trusts, wills, and powers of attorney), Medicaid planning, guardianships and conservatorships, and probate. She is licensed to practice in state courts in Montana and maintains her inactive license in Arizona.
While you may never again find Laurie on a soccer pitch, ski slope or karate dojo, you might come across her exploring a new country or city, hiking and camping in our big back yard of NW Montana, taking photos, or taking it slow and steady in a Crossfit class. And, of course, you can find her at Tanko Law Office in Kalispell and in future additional office locations.
